On April 3-4, 2018 in Slavgorod, Mogilev region, an extended meeting of the Regional Council was held, formed by five districts of Mogilev region to improve the sustainability of its development. The Regional Council includes representatives of local authorities and the residents of Bykhov, Klichev, Krasnopolie, Cherikov and Slavgorod districts.
The meeting of the Regional Council was devoted to the issues of strategic planning and development of the region. At the very beginning, the participants once again checked the indicators that will be achieved in the short and medium term during the implementation of the developed Regional Plan. In the near future, the final document "Plan of regional cooperation to improve the sustainability of the five rural areas of the Mogilev region for 2018-2020 with priorities until 2030" will be submitted for approval to the leadership of the five districts. The key results of the plan will be to reduce the outflow of population, to make areas contribute to the prevention of global climate change, to increase the tourist and investment attractiveness of the areas, as well as to create a network of resource centers in the region to increase the capacity of local residents and specialists to implement the Plan.
The second issue of the meeting was the assessment of the Regional Plan document for compliance with the principles of the European network for sustainable development (ESDN) and integration of the Regional Plan with the UN sustainable development goals. According to the participants, further work on the Plan document will significantly increase the attractiveness of the region to investments and expand their opportunities for the development and implementation of pilot projects in partnership with international, foreign and national partners. This discussion was started for the first time and has already allowed to outline the need for a clear declaration in the Regional Plan the participation of local development, horizontal and vertical integration of the plan and its implementation mechanisms. This discussion will be continued at the next meetings.
In order to study the practical experience of the implementation of sustainable development strategies from 11 to 14 April 2018, representatives of the Regional Council will visit Kamenetsk, Kobrin and Bereza districts of Brest region, where the following strategies are implemented: sustainable development at the level of the village council and the district, the strategy of the tourism cluster and the strategy of sustainable development of education establishments. This visit will facilitate the Regional Council's improvement and implementation of their own Regional Plan.
